Lisa Matheson is the founder of and Chief Crisis Consultant at Crisis Whisperer. Her diverse disaster response, crisis communications and planning background includes work with Fortune 500 companies, state and local government and non-profits across the areas of disaster relief, emergency management, banking (risk management, business continuity, operations), higher education and broadcast media.
Lisa’s experience includes work as a communicator, adviser, planner and/or incident manager for the following situations:
- Natural and man-made disasters, severe weather
- Business disruptions / COOP
- Transportation accidents and mass fatalities
- Employee and student incidents
- Terrorism incidents
- Legal and regulatory audit and compliance management
- Public health concerns such as pandemic (H1N1), West Nile Virus
- Organizational reputation management
Lisa is one of 150 members of the national American Red Cross’ Advanced Public Affairs Team, an official digital volunteer and a disaster public affairs volunteer for the Georgia Region/Metro Atlanta Chapter. In addition to media relations activities, she develops marketing and publicity materials for fundraising and volunteer enrichment programs and trains volunteers in public affairs. Lisa is a member of the Virtual Operations Support Team (VOST) Leadership Coalition and serves on its training curriculum committee. She is also a member of IAEM, FEMA’s National Community Preparedness forum and the International Federation of Red Cross / Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Global Disaster Preparedness Center. She holds a B.A. in English and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of West Georgia. In addition, Lisa has considerable training in social media, emergency management and public affairs.
